2015 the year for Chalmers
26th April 2016
2015 is a year filled with great achievements for Chalmers Underwood. He won the ‘TORGAS Owen T Jones QLD Apprentice of the Year’ Award in May at the TORGAS NQ Awards Night, completed his Electrical Apprenticeship and on Saturday night, 31stof October he added another prestigious award to his resume, Master Electricians NQ ‘Apprentice of the Year’.
Chalmers Underwood attended the Master Electricians Excellence Awards evening on Saturday 31st of October with TORGAS and Schneider Electric (originally host employer, now employer).
“I am both excited about winning the Apprentice of the Year for North Queensland and yet very nervous about competing in the National finals,” said Chalmers.
“If it wasn’t for the love and support of my family, and TORGAS & Schneider Electric for putting me through my apprenticeship, I would never have had this opportunity. I am very grateful.”
Chalmers has had a love for electronics ever since he was a child. His mother bought him a Dick Smith Electronics kit, which he would play with for hours building circuit boards; it was then his passion for Electrical work began.
Chalmers commenced his apprenticeship with TORGAS in 2011. He was initially placed with Airlec NQ who taught him how to wire switchboards and learn more about mechanical electrical. In his second year of his apprenticeship, Chalmers was rotated to Schneider Electric who, when he completed his apprenticeship in 2015, offered him full-time employment. In his current role, Chalmers does small work jobs and engineering; which means he designs, installs and implements control strategies to help his clients save money on refrigeration costs.
