Trainee in top 21 in Australia!

TORGAS is a Group Training Organisation that is all about quality trainees and apprentices and trainee, Rebecca Ottone is reaping the rewards of being at the top of her game!

GTA’s (Group Training Australia) annual leadership program; “Today’s Skills Tomorrow’s Leaders” targets the elite assemply of outstanding group training apprentices and trainees who demonstrate high levels of performance, maturity and leadership throughout their placement. Twenty one apprentices and trainees from around Australia were selected to attend the program in Canberra (17-21 August 2014) and Rebecca was proud to be amongst the top 21 in the country.

The leadership and career development program not only benefits the participants, host employers and GTOs, but is also a valuable tool for group training state and national associations as they seek ambassadors and role models able to effectively promote the value of group training.

Today’s Skills Tomorrow’s Leaders runs over 5 days at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. The program was launched by the Governor-General of Australia at Government House in 2004.

Rebecca Ottone is currently conducting a Business Administration Traineeship and is placed with host business, Locker Group in Townsville. Rebecca’s can-do attitude is one of the reasons she was selected to participate in the leadership program and she couldn’t be more excited saying “I am glad that TORGAS and my host business recognised my hard work and efforts. I felt extremely honoured that I was invited along with all of these accomplished people to attend the leadership course.”

One of Rebecca’s highlights of her trip to Canberra was the movitational session with Brennan Dowrick, Australia’s first ever gymnastics Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist in 1990. Rebecca  not only enjoyed his motivational speaking,  he also performed his routine that got him the gold medal 25 years later.

One of Brennan’s messages that really stuck with Rebecca was that out of your whole day 15 mins equals 1%, so if you just use that 1% every day to push towards your dreams, you can make anything happen. Brennan practiced his routine for an extra 15 mins every day and Rebecca has decided to do yoga, which will help her stay in shape, relax her mind and is a great way to start her day. Some of the other participants have decided to learn Russian and start meditating.

“Another highlight was working out our 5 year vision. We imagined two different visions; the path we’re currently on and the path we would like to be on. This exercise made me realize that my true passion lies within education,” said Rebecca.
Once Rebecca finishes her Business Administration Traineeship, she will enrol into university to commence a Degree in Education.

When asked if she would recommend the leadership program, Rebecca answered, “Absolutely! It has changed my life in more ways than I could ever imagine. Words can’t explain the experience. The leadership course has given me more confidence and I feel ready to take on the world.”
