Chef

As an apprentice chef you are on the path to becoming a qualified chef. You'll not only learn about all espects of the kitchen, you'll also have the opportunity to work with the best in your industry, constantly challenging yourself by learning new things every day, come up with great new ways of creating exceptional food and work in an industry where no two days are the same.

Aside from assisting chefs and preparing food, there is a lot to learn when you take on a job as an apprentice chef. You will be taught various ways to prepare food and how to use and care for kitchen materials and equipment properly. The Chefs or managers will also give you information about menu planning, food cost control, purchasing food supplies, determining portion sizes and how to use leftover food to diminish waste. You'll also be learning about restaurant sanitation and health rules regarding food. It is both a rewarding and challenging role! 

Plumber

Plumbers are tradespeople who specialise in installing, testing, maintaining and repairing pipe systems and other related fixtures. Before becoming a qualified plumber, apprentices need to complete professional plumbing training both on and off the job.

Apprentice plumbers have to spend a few years of learning and training to become fully knowledgeable and skillful in plumbing, gas fitting and other related procedures. Apprentice plumbers can also help to build and repair water supplies, sewer systems, roofs, gutters, downpipes, boilers, air conditioning and ventilation systems. They can also be responsible for the installation of hot water services, certain aspects of fire protection services, drainage systems and septic systems. There is a variety of challenging tasks to mask.

As an apprentice plumber, career roles as a plumbing inspector, hydraulic consultant, technical teacher or building administrator are amongst the possibilities for progression.

Business Administration

Business Administration trainees learn how to work effectively and efficiently withing the company, work in a team environment, use a range of workplace communication strategies, use and access resources and financial systems, work effectively with a diverse range of people and use office equipment and technology,

Careers in Business Administration can help you be an accountant, administrative executive, banker, chief executive officer, city manager, controller, consultant, department store manager, director, human resource manager, public relations specialist, retail manager and also a school administrator.

Carpenter

If you re looking for a trade that will allow you to really use your hands in order to planand create buildings, furniture, or other items that require wood, becoming a carpenter is ideal. Carpenters construct, erect, install, finish and repair wooden and metal structures and fixtures on residential and commercial buildings. Carpenters may also carry out work on large concrete, steel and timber structures such as bridges, damsn, power stations and civil engineering projects.

With further training and experience, a Carpenter could become a building supervisor, building construction manager, building inspector, technical teacher, estimator, building contract administrator or purchasing officer. Also to achieve well in this industry you need you enjoy practical work, able to work with your hands, good sense of balance and ability to work at heights, satisfactory at mathematics, good eyesight, and able to work in a part of a team.

Electrician

An Electrician specialises in the installation, operation repair and maintenance of electrical systems. These systems include wiring, circuit boards and electronics.

When you become an electrical apprentice you will be part of one of the most dynamic and technically advanced trades around. The electrical industry is at the cutting edge of technology- technology that is always changing to meet the future demands of industry. An electrical trade is your ticket to working with the latest computer technology, software, control systems, building automation, audiovisual technology and electronic components and appliances.

Once you finish an electrical apprenticeship there are no limits to where your career can go. You may end up managing projects and teams of people, doing further study in engineering management or business or using your trade as the basis of University or further education.

Boilermaker

Stemming from the "Engineerig" apprenticeships, boilermaking is the practice of cutting, shaping, joining and finishing metals using heat, moulding, spinning or hammering, to create ships, storage tanks, brewery vats, boilers and much more!

Because boilermakers are trained to work with heavy gauge metal, some specially trained tradesmen can also be employed to work on the construction or repair of towers and bridges. You might consider becoming a boilermaker if you enjoy working with machines, are strong enough to haandle heavy metals and tools, have an eye for fine detail and like keeping active in your work.

Diesel Fitter

Diesel Fitting is the practice of repairing and servicing heavy machinery, marine engines, heavy lift vehicles and heavy duty motors for devices such as lifts and generators. As a diesel fitter, your day to day work could include working on engines, cooling systems, automatic transmissions, brakes, clutches, gear boxes, fuel pumps and axel assemblies.

Working with specialised equipment like hydraulic presses, cranes or gantries, lathes, welding gear and testing equipment, diesel fitters are kept busy in the mining, manufacturing and agricultural industries. There is a whole range of potential careers waiting for qualified fitters!

Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning

Refrigeration and air-conditioning apprentices spend time problem solving, finding faults, reparing and servicing air-conditioning and refrigerant devices. Some of these devices may include long-haul freight trailers for trucks, industrial fridges and freezers for supermarket chains and warehouses, temperature control units for specialised habitats suchs as zoos or aquariums, household air-condiotning and refrigeration units.

By learning how to use welding and soldering equipment and operate pipe manufacturing tools, as well as becoming familia with the inner most works of compressors, chiller units, blower unit fan systems, a refrigeration and air-conditioning apprentice will be able to put their training into practice in workshop and at different work sites.

Sheet Metal

Sheet Metal working is the practice of cutting, marking out, shaping and joining thin metals using power tools, hand tools and machines.

Sheet Metal workers use different type of steel, aluminium, brass and copper to form and shape products as varied and diverse as the sheet metal trade itself! Food displau cabinets, trays for utes, vans and trucks, industrial benches and surfaces, fencing materials and decorative pieces are only some of the products fabricated by sheet metal workers; there is a whole range of potential careers waiting for future apprentices!
