2011 TORGAS Awards Night
Skilling the Best - Townsville & Bowen 3rd June 2011
The 27th Annual TORGAS Awards was a sell out event were apprentices and trainees were recognised for their outstanding success and achievements over the past year.
There were 29 awards presented, including the prestigious Owen T Jones TORGAS Queensland Apprentice of the Year, which was won by Townsville’s 4th Year Electrotechnology [Systems] Apprentice Jackson Linley.
In front of a packed Townsville Jupiters Grand Ball room Jackson paid tribute to his four host businesses and to TORGAS. Having rotated between four different host businesses, each employer has been able to provide specialised training for Jackson enabling him to diversify his skills in fire alarm technology, switch board mechanics, air field lighting and industrial electrotechnology.
It has been a very successful week for Jackson who has also been selected as one of twenty-one ambassadors from around Australia to participate in the Group Training Australia’s Todays Skills Tomorrows Leaders program for group training apprentices and trainees in Canberra later this year.
Jackson has also been selected by the Electrical Safety Office to provide presentations to TAFE apprentices in class, sharing his experiences of being an Electrical Apprentice.
