About TORGAS

TORGAS is a non-profit organization operating on a commercial basis. Our area of service covers from Cardwell in the North to Mackay and Whitsunday and Islands to Brisbane, North and North West Qld.

Since commencement in 1984 TORGAS has established an enviable record of achievement as "The Apprentice & Trainee Specialist". Known originally as Townsville Regional Group Apprentice Scheme, the company was among the earliest Group Training companies in Australia. The concept arose from the perception that there were those businesses, which were either small or specialised, were unable to provide a quality training opportunity.

Today, TORGAS currently employs over 450 apprentices and trainees in a number of different vocations including engineering, automotive, construction, hospitality, administration plus many more. More than 200 businesses including Government organizations support the TORGAS system.

Employers are called 'host businesses' under the TORGAS Inc system. Our system places apprentices and trainees with host businesses for an agreed period of time. The apprentices and trainees are employed by TORGAS Inc - but they work for the host businesses.

Our professional Field Officers provide ongoing support and monitoring for the apprentice/trainees and host businesses. Regular workplace visits are conducted to address any training or work performance issues. Our service also includes looking after all the administrative matters in relation to the apprentice/trainees employment, including college attendance.
